Additional Support

These results are in accordance with earlier findings that used a complex formulation that included Pycnogenol®. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study with 62 women, skin elasticity was improved by 9% after the 6 weeks test period. (Ref. 4) Also in this investigation, a cutometer was used. Skin roughness, evaluated by three-dimensional microtopography imaging, was lowered by 6%.

To get a broader picture of the importance of Pycnogenol® to the skin, one has to add its manifold protective effects. Of utmost importance is that Pycnogenol® protects skin against UV radiation. Also important, just in context with elasticity, is the inhibition of the enzymes that destroy skin proteins – especially Pycnogenol®’s protection against elastase. This enzyme degrades the most important structural protein, elastin.

The synergism between protection of existing structures and creation of new structure elements favors Pycnogenol® for skin care.
